The Best Poem In My World

Well, well, well. Its been a long time. And I just want to say thank you to everyone who had been around, everyone whose works Ive had the privelage of reading. I dunno if any of the old timers remember, but back in the day, part of my sig used to be "Supporting gollum as the best poet in the world" or something like that... Well, Ive been reading through my journal lately, and I rediscovered the reason that I think that. And I want to post it here so that anyone who hasnt read it will get the chance to. Everyone, read this. Gollum, thank you. And without further ado:


Chris

i taught myself today how
to slide down bannisters
and railing like
you always do
with your left hand tucked
under the railing behind you
just in case
and your right hand up
for balance and your
legs out and your head up
and with you in mind i
did not walk down the
last four steps, instead
i hopped up on the
railing running down
the middle of these marble
stairs and slid
down to the bottom, my
butt sliding along the
polished wooden handrail
and the little lip at
the bottom slowed me down
suddenly and as i jumped
off i wondered why i
chose today at
age nineteen to slide
down the bannister like
you but maybe

it is my way of saying
"i'm sorry" to you when
you're not around.
